Why BitTorrent is the Fastest way to Share Files

Many internet users today are skeptical about sharing large files. One of the main concerns is the speed of the upload. How long will it take to download a one gigabyte file? Using the wonderful program BitTorrent is the fastest way to share files, mostly because they are spread virally.

The way BitTorrent works is unlike any other software. The original uploader, commonly referred to as the seeder, will begin uploading a file to anyone that connects to their machine. However, as soon as that seeder gives even part of a file to someone else, that person becomes both an uploader and downloader (also known as a seeder and leecher). Since all the users active in a single torrent are connected to each other, the original seeder (let's call him John) is able to give part of a file to the downloader (let's call him Rob). However, Rob will also be able to give what he has of the file to anyone else that downloads the torrent.

Therefore, when 100 people have a certain part of a file, John will be able to serve out other pieces of the file, because the 100 downloaders will be able to share what they have with anyone new that joins the torrent. Once a user has completed downloading the entire file, they no longer are both a seeder and a leecher; they are just a seeder. Now, if that user is uploading at the same speed of the original user, distribution speed of the file will exponentially increase. As more and more people complete the download, more and more seeders will exist. At this point, the original uploader might not even have to continue seeding the file; the new seeders are enough to sustain the torrent.

The structure of BitTorrent is so advanced that it is the quickest way to share large files. If your torrent gets popular enough, people will be able to download it within minutes. Users of cable and DSL can reach speeds of one megabyte per second when there are enough seeders. These speeds cannot be reached anywhere else on the internet.

As you can see, BitTorrent is the most effective software to use when sharing large files. After just a few hours, thousands of users could have your file downloaded, and they might be distributing it to other people. It is basically viral downloading. Although BitTorrent was not always the most used software for sharing large files, it is now. BitTorrent has encouraged millions of users to share millions of files on the internet, at the highest possible speeds. In the past years, BitTorrent is the wave of the future. It has replaced programs such as Napster and WinMX, and will continue to do so. Nothing can beat the abilities of BitTorrent, and it will remain that way for years to come.
